Tian’anmen Square, Forbidden City(UNESO World Heritage)

Ringed by 3.5km of scarlet citadel walls at the very heart of Běijīng, the Unesco-listed Forbidden City is China’s largest and best-preserved collection of ancient buildings, and the largest palace complex in the world. Steeped in stultifying ritual and Byzantine regal protocol, this other-worldly palace was the reclusive home to two dynasties of imperial rule, sharing 900-plus buildings with a retinue of eunuchs, servants and concubines, until the Republic overthrew the last Qing emperor in 1911.

Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven in the southern

part of Beijing is China's largest existing

complex of ancient sacrificial buildings.

Occupying an area of 273 hectares, it is

three times the area of the Forbidden

City. It was built in 1420 for emperors

 to worship Heaven. The principle

buildings include the Altar of Prayer

for Good Harvests, Imperial Vault of

Heaven and Circular Mound Altar.

the Great Wall (UNESO World Heritage)

In 220 B.C., under Qin Shi Huang, sections of earlier fortifications were joined together to form a united defence system against invasions from the north. Construction continued up to the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), when the Great Wall became the world's largest military structure. Its historic and strategic importance is matched only by its architectural significance.

Summer Palace(UNESO World Heritage)

The Summer Palace in Beijing – first built in 1750, largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886 – is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. The natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridges to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value.

Small Wild Goose Pagoda(UNESO World Heritage)

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda is located on the central axis of the Jianfu Temple in south Xi'an. As a national AAAA scenic spot and a world heritage site, the Buddhist pagoda survives from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Tourists can learn about the history and culture of Xi'an by visiting the pagoda and the Xi'an Museum in the southwest of the temple. The pagoda is not as famous as the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, but is more peaceful and tranquil. As part of the artistic heritage of Buddhist architectures of the Tang Dynasty, it witnessed how Buddhism was introduced to China and integrated with the culture of Han nationality.
